Red Tinted Lips

Ishaan

I stand lip tight in between the circle of curious girls surrounding me, they peep into the brown paper in my hand before gossiping something amongst themselves and then again turning back to the paper. I know they're curious, even I am, I mean who would send this to our beloved Kyra, and if he wanted to, couldn't he have done it himself?

I feel the crowd around me disperse before Kyra rushes over to me and snatches the paper from my hand and disappears in a matter of seconds. A small pang makes it to my heart. She was furious, I don't know, whether with me, or the person who had sent this. Kyra made sure the whole day was about Kanishk, and this small letter had just brought the whole attention to her. I sigh softly as a frown pulls up to my face.

"Why the sad face?"

Anvi's sweet voice hits my ears as she comes into my view. The maroon saree wrapped around her figure made my insides heat up. She looks so gorgeous, like a piece of art that should never be touched, except by the artist, and my deepest desires wish I was that artist.

She snaps her fingers in front of my face and my trail of thoughts breaks.

"Kya dekh raha hai? Kuch laga hua hai kya mere face pe?"
(What are you looking at? Is there smtg on my face?)

"Nhi bas soch raha hu, tum chaand se hi zyada Sundar kese ho sakti ho."
(No, I'm just thinking, how can you be prettier than the moon.)

A soft smile makes it to my lips when I see a tint of red flash on her cheek. She shakes her head before holding my hand and dragging me towards the crowd of people dancing together.

"Mujhe akele nhi dance karna, Tu bhi kar"
(I don't wanna dance alone)

I chuckle and agree with her, stepping between the crowd. But the music changes swiftly, and the crowd disperses leaving a few couples and me along with Anvi standing in the middle.

The soft tune plays as people around us step closer and dance with their partners. Realizing the situation, Anvi pulls back almost stepping out of the crowd. But my hand grabs hers before she leaves.

My right hand wraps around her waist, pulling her close before our chests together each other, and my left hand, holds her tips, placing the palm of her right hand on my shoulder.

"You wanted to dance."

"Not like this."

"Too bad, we can't step out till the song is over"

"Who said that?"

"Me."

Before she says anything, I waltz her around, our bodies brush against each other. Anvi's eyes stare hard into mine, shifting whenever we take a turn. My stomach rumbles with butterflies, seeing her beautiful face so close to mine.

Her red-tinted lips form small smiles of enjoyment whenever I lift her slightly, her eyebrows resting calmly, her cheeks still have the blush they did a few minutes back.

The song finally comes to an end but my hand doesn't leave her waist. She breathes heavily against my chest, her lips agape. Something in me lights up furiously, and I lean closer to the red tint.

"Anvi!"

I hear the shout of Kaynaaz from the corner of the stage, calling out my enchantress for help. Anvi places her hands on my chest before pulling away for me slightly and running in the direction of the cords and wires placed on the ground.

A heavy sigh leaves my lips as I rub my forehead. God, why does someone always interpret when I'm about to kiss her?

Kyra

My back sinks into the mattress as I look at the piece of brown paper held in my hand. I had zero clue whom this was. But one thing was for sure, whoever wrote this had to be at the function today, otherwise, how could they be so sure I was the only one wearing a golden saree?

A groan of frustration makes it past my lips before my eyes latch onto the small signature-like writing at the back of the page. My back straightens as I take a closer look at the ink mark inspecting it.

"Weird. Aese note dete hai toh atleast signature toh ache se karna chahiye na, Kuch samjh hi nhi aarha."
(Weird. If you're giving a note like this, at least you should sign it properly. I can't see anything.)

Folding the piece of paper, I set it on the side table of my bed, before standing up and walking towards my dresser. The function was still going on, but if I went there, I would definitely catch unnecessary attention, which I wasn't interested in.

I carefully remove the earrings in my lobes before placing them on the dresser and continue to do the same with the rest of my jewellery. A smile makes it to my lips thinking of the compliments I had received all night. It had been a long time since I had felt pretty. And my friends and family made sure I felt exactly that today.

Unveiling the saree from my body, I fold it neatly before hopping into a warm shower to rinse off the sweat and makeup on my face. I needed my bed and some serious sleep after all the running I'd done all day.

Stepping out of the bathroom after getting ready, my feet automatically make their way towards the bed, but before I crash into sleep, my eyes flicker to the packet of cookies placed near my bed. A chuckle leaves my lips as I hear my stomach rumble from hunger. I mean, there's always a spot for some Oreos and ice cream, right?

Picking up the huge packet Shivyansh had brought for me early, I rip it open before popping an Oreo in my mouth and munching on it slowly. A moan almost makes it out of my mouth tasting the cookie and vanilla cream of the biscuit. May god bless whoever made this beautiful, mouthwatering, piece of desert I could eat for the rest of my life.

A soft knock on the door, makes me close the packet in a hurry and place it back into the paper bag it originally came from.

"One second, undar maat aana."
(One second. Don't come inside)

Agar ye koi se ko bhi dikh gaya na, toh Pakka kha jaege. Mere pyaare Oreos.
(If anyone sees this, they'll definitely eat it. My beloved Oreos)

Picking up the bag, I place it in my table drawing before locking it securely and putting the keys under my pillow. I quickly get into bed and pick up the closet thing from my table to pretend I'm reading.

"Hn, ab aajao."
(Yes, now come)

The door slowly creaks open and I see Shivyansh pop his head inside my room.

"Phir aagaya tu? chaain nhi hai kya?"
(You came again? Can't you stay at peace?)

"Chup ho ja chudail, mai ghayaal ho ke aaya hu"
(Shut up bitch, I've come back wounded)

I raise my eyebrow at him, and he shuts the door behind him before walking inside and sitting on the chair in front of my dresser. It was certainly a funny thing, a big man sitting on such a tiny chair, Something out of the usual.

I clear my throat and pick up the notebook on the side table along with a pen. Looking up, I give him a playful smile.

"Good evening Mr. Khurana this is your therapist how can I help you?"

He lets out a snort of amusement before giving me a silly side-eye.

"What are you doing woman?"

"Just play along, now tell me khurana, tujhko ghaayal kisne kiya?"
(Who wounded you?)

"Hai ek khubsuraat mohtarma, unke sath flirt karne ki koshish ki thi, ulta mera mazak bana gyi."
(One beautiful lady, I tried flirting with her, in turn, she just made fun of me.)

"Awwle kya bola Usne?"
(Awwle, what did she say?)

"She called it dorkiness."

A stifle of laughter leaves my lip and he looks at me in annoyance. Man, he just got roasted by a woman. He's definitely not used to that, I mean women surround him like sharks asking for attention as if it's food.

"And who exactly is this incredible woman, mai khud usko thank you bolna chahugi for roasting you."
(I would personally like to thank her for roasting you)

"Shut up, aren't you my therapist? Matlab mujhe aur depression me dalna hai tujhe?"
(Do you want to put me in more depression?)

"Nhi nhi okay sorry. Ab bolo, kya karna?"
No no okay sorry. Now tell me, what do you wanna do?)

"Tere sath karlu?"
(Should I do it with you?)

"Kya?"
(What?)

"Flirt."

I give him an annoyed smile before shutting my notebook close. He's so annoying I can rip his beautifully handsome face off but that would be a serious crime and injustice to many people.

"Karle, ye hi kaam rehe gaya hai."
(Sure, this is the only thing left to do)

He gets up from the chair he was sitting on and clears his throat before eying around my room until his eyes land on the pile of clothes on the edge of my bed. They had been there seen this afternoon, I was too busy or tired to fold and put them in their place.

He gives me a smile of mischief and stands directly in front of the pile of clothes.

"Aankhe band kar."
(Close your eyes.)

"Kyu?"
(Why?)

"Abey karna chudail."
(Just do it bitch)

"Chudail kisko bol-"
(Who did you call a bitch-)

Before I finish the sentence, he throws a piece of cloth on my face, blocking my view of his figure. I hear him ramage through the pile of clothes, and by the time I remove the cloth from my sight, he's standing next to me with his hands behind his back.

"What- what the fuck-"

"Kyra?"

"Yea?"

I look at him with questioning eyes hearing his voice come out as soft as ever, he tilts his head before a bunny smile appears on his face.

"Will you be my panty?"

"WHAT?"

"I'LL BE YOUR BRA WILL YOU BE MY PANTY TOGETHER WE'LL BE BIKINI"

I look at him in disbelief hearing the words coming out of his mouth. I purse my lips to hold in my laughter but fail at the attempt as a series of loud giggles leave my lips

"What the fuck is wrong with you?"

"BE MY PANTY!"

he drops to his knees before bringing forth the hands he was holding behind. I look at him and then at his hand, again bursting into laughter seeing him hold the pair of swimsuit I had brought yesterday. My hands fly up to my face covering my mouth in an attempt to soften my laughter.

"Look guys she's getting emotional"

He throws his hands up as the swimsuit flies out of his hands before landing back in the pile of clothes. I calm myself down, clearing my throat as I look at him. But the thug smile on his face makes me burst into laughter again.

"Who tf proposes like that Khurana?"

"Me freaking me."

"No wonder you got roasted by that woman."

"Shut up."

He smacks the back of my head, before smiling while looking at my laughing state. I take a deep breath before calming down.

"At least you smiled"

"Why was I not smiling before?"

I look at him in question, and he shakes his head softly. I hadn't been smiling? Cuz as far as I remember, I had a smile on my face all evening.

"Not after that announcement Ishaan made on stage. The way you stormed after taking that paper from him, Ishaan ko laga Tu uss hi gussa ho gyi"
(Ishaan thought you got mad at him)

I wasn't mad at anyone.. just, confused. It wasn't something I was expecting, nor I wanted. Not when it was Kanishk's big day. I wanted all the attention on him rather than me. What is more annoying is that now I know everyone will come up to me asking, 'Kyra who sent that?' 'Kyra did you already get a new bf?'. I hate that attention.

"Ohh hello madam, aapni overthinking ki duniya se bahar aao."
(Ohh hello madam, come out of your world of overthinking)

I look at him with a frown before sinking back into my pillow. He pats my head before picking up the paper by my side and looking over it. I study the way his eyes scan the paper, moving left to right and right to left, up and down, before flipping the paper around. They expand, the same way mine had while looking at the barely visible, messy signature. He picks up his finger to point at the signature, but before he utters a word I cut in between.

"Dekh liya mene, it's not visible properly"

"Have you ever seen anything similar to it?"

"Never"

"Not even Tanmay's?"

I give him a side eye before throwing a pillow at his face.

"Why would he even send me something like that when he cheated and he's dating someone else? Are you an idiot?"

"I'm not. But true, he wouldn't send smtg like this. Anyways, I'm definitely much more romantic than him, he couldn't send such beautiful lines for you."

"Much more romantic. Sure sure. Proposing with a bikini. Very romantic panda."

"I'm romantic Chup rehe, and since when am I panda?"

"Since the day I dumped flour on your head."

"oh, you mean the day I found you crying like an ocean of tears over your ex?"

"Chup ho janaaaa"
(Shut uppp)

I whine softly before smacking my hand in front on his face. He looks at me with tight lips, before picking up a pillow and smacking it head-first on my face.

"OUCH."

"what ouch? Mereko maar rahi thi tab ouch nhi dikha billi ki bachi?"
(You couldn't see when you were hitting me?)

"Nhi mai anndhi hu mujhe dikhta nhi."
(No I'm blind)

"Ye toh moye moye ho gaya."

I break out into a huge smile listening to his silly words.

"Hnnn aese hi toh."
(Yes, just like that)

He pokes his finger into the dimple on my cheek before standing up from the bed. Ruffling my hair softly, he gives me a genuine smile.

"Don't overthink, eat your Oreos, and keep that cute dimple on your cheek."

I nod my head at his sweet words, before giving him a tight hug. His hand rubs my back softly, before patting it and pulling out of the hug.

"Good night kid."

"Good night panda."

He makes his way out of my room, before leaving me to my blushing presence.

Anvi

I feel Ishaan trail behind me as I make my way up to the empty room next to Kaynaaz's. I was furious, my perfectly good saree was ruined because Shiv was too busy paying attention to Mariam and spilt his glass of champagne on my dress. And now I had to change into something else because Ishaan insisted that I'd catch a goddamn cold.

I had decided to stay with them till the wedding so it would be easier for all of us to finish the work. Although I didn't do much, since Kyra had been allotted all the duties because she's the elder sister.

I opened the door to the bedroom, turning around to face Ishaan and eyeing him.

"Are you gonna watch me change too?"

"I wouldn't mind."

He gives me a thug smile and I just roll my eyes, in an attempt the hide the butterflies which had irrupted in my stomach. Lord who cares, he can watch me, and devour me, and I would let him do that happily.

"Shut up. I'll change in the bathroom."

"Just say you want me in your bedroom, Anvi, I wouldn't mind being in your bed either. Looks utterly comfy."

He tilts his head towards the white sheeted bed, before looking back at me. I stand there for a second, figuring out what to say before quietly turning around and stepping further into the room.

This room was pretty big, as big as Kyra's was. The bed was king-sized and could probably fit like three people. But since no one else was staying at the Rajvanshi's and had decided to cycle back and forth between work and the wedding, the room had only been mine. Which of course I didn't mind. I mean when else would I get such a big bed to sleep on alone?

"You should change quickly nhi toh thand lag jaegi."
You should change quickly, or else you'll catch a cold."

"It's literally summer Ishaan."

"Hn toh? Summer me thand nhi lag sakti?"
(So what? You can't catch a cold in the summer?)

I chuckle a bit at his concern, before pulling out a fresh pair of clothes to change into. As soon as I close the suitcase, I feel his presence right behind my back, staring down at the piece of fabric I've in my hand.

"It's pretty"

"It is, I got it on my birthday, it was a gift from your brother."

"But you know Anvi?"

"Yes?"

"It would look better on my bedroom floor."

I let out a loud cough of surprise hearing the flirty words from his mouth. The butterflies in my stomach storm into a tornado, and I feel my cheeks heat by from the words that just fell out of his lips.

I quickly turn around before dodging towards the bathroom and locking myself inside.

"Itna sharma gyi kya jaaneman?"

I could hear the amusement in his words while I stare at my red reflection in the mirror. My cheeks burned a crimson red against the soft brown skin. His words repeat in my mind before a smile makes it up my lips, making me break into a fit of chuckles. How could he say such lame words and still make them sound so alluring?

I changed into the dress which Shiv had gifted me on my birthday last year. It was a pretty black full-length dress which hugged my curves beautifully. Quickly fixing up my hair, I step outside the bathroom since Ishaan sitting on the edge of my bed.

He looks up from his phone, and his eyes linger on my figure. They swipe over the curve of my hips before eying my cleavage for a minute second and looking away.

Clearing my throat, I walk over to my dresser before opening my jewelry box looking for an earring to match with the dress I'm wearing. He stands up quietly, before peeping into the box set on the white dresser curiously.

"Ye dekho, is this looking good?"

I hold up a gold-hanging earring and put it close to my ears, asking his opinion. He shakes his head slightly before searching in the messy box and pulling out a long silver chain-like earring.

"Silver will suit you better, you're already shining like gold."

"Thank you.."

My voice came out softer than I had expected it to. This chain of words had made shyness come over me. I take the earrings from his fingers before replacing them with the ones I had on earlier. Ishaan keeps shifting through my jewellery, looking at the various rings and bracelets placed inside.

"I'm done, let's go now."

I pick up my phone which was placed on the bed before turning towards the door.

"Anvi, where'd you get this?"

I turn around to see him holding an earring, before looking at his.

"It's mine, why?"

"Where's the other pair?"

Confused, I step closer to him and look into the box looking to find the other piece of jewellery. I take a double look at the earrings before my hands pause in their place.

Ishaan's brown eyes move back and forth between me and the earring which I had given him along with my letter.
